MISSOULA - A high level source at the University of Montana tells us that officials met late Monday afternoon to discuss Jordan Johnson's future on the football team.

Defense attorney David Paoli told us Johnson has some catch work to do after the three-week long trial, but he's continuing to attend his classes at the University of Montana.

Paoli also said Johnson is discussing his future on the football team with UM, but he can't tell us whether Johnson is in the appeals process.

Meanwhile, the Missoula County Attorney Fred Van Valkenburg says he's disappointed with the outcome of this case, but he feels that his office had enough evidence to take this case to trial.

"It's just one of these kinds of cases that's a very difficult case. A jury has to make a decision as to whether a defendant is guilty or not guilty and they came down in this case with the decision the defendant was not guilty," Van Valkenburg said.

He says his staff members talked to the accuser in this case and she wasn't happy with the end result.

"Certainly, she was very disappointed in the outcome, it was awful lot for her to go through to get to the point-to the end of this trial," Van Valkenburg said.

He also says the Department of Justice investigation had nothing to do with this case. "Maybe just the fact that it's over will cause the DOJ to do something at this point, but I really don't know."

Van Valkenburg adds that his position on the federal investigation hasn't changed and he still feels like they don't have the authority or the basis to investigate his office.

"I don't think that we've done anything wrong in terms of how we handled cases like this, and at this point I think...they have to put up or shut up."

Van Valkenburg says his office will try to get some feedback from the jurors in the next week to see how they felt about the case.
