KALISPELL- Transportation impact fees in the city of Kalispell could soon be eliminated, but it may come at the cost of taxpayers.
In an attempt to stimulate growth in Kalispell, city council voted at the end of January to dissolve the transportation fee some members believe is keeping developers from building within city limits.
Some city staff believe people wanting to start a business might avoid doing so in Kalispell because currently new businesses are required to pay the fees to maintain roads.
But if that fee is eliminated, taxpayers will have to cover those road and infrastructure costs instead.
But it looks like council won't be discussing the possibility of repealing Transportation Impact Fees for two more weeks.
Councilman Wayne Saverud was absent from Monday night's city council meeting and asked the council to table the issue.
He wants to be present and vote on the issue before council goes any further on repealing the fees.
Kalispell City Council will vote on the issue on February 21st.
