KALISPELL - The Kalispell School Board has unanimously voted to draw up a final contract for a new schools superintendent.
Cle Elum-Roslyn Superintendent Mark Flatau of Washington state is still in the middle of contract negotiations with the school district. But, board members decided they want to approve the final contract before agreeing to hire him.
Two Kalispell School Board of Trustees members made a site visit to Cle Elum last week for a background and reference check. But, they also spent two days talking to community members to confirm that Flatau was a good fit for Kalispell.
"Jack and I dropped in on the police station, for example and talked to a sergeant there that happened to be on duty. We went into a coffee shop and talked to a patient there who was very knowledgeable about the school district and Mark and what he had done," explained trustee member Joe Brenneman.
The trustees say Cle Elum community members spoke very highly of Flatau and his work as a superintendent.
