ALBERTON- A Kalispell man passed away Sunday evening after a rafting accident in the Alberton Gorge.

Mineral County Sheriff Ernie Ornelas says Neil Albright, 49, was thrown from a raft he and another man were using when it tipped on its side shortly before 3:30 p.m.

The other man in the boat was able to hold on to some ropes and was uninjured. Ornelas said Albright was not wearing a life jacket.

Bystanders performed CPR on Albright until an ambulance arrived and he was flown to St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.

Ornelas said the accident and cause of death remain under investigation and it's unknown if alcohol played a role in the incident.
