COLUMBIA FALLS - The Flathead County Sheriff's Department says an 80 year old Kalispell man died in the North Fork of the Flathead River on Saturday afternoon.

Sheriff Chuck Curry says around 2:30 p.m., a group of people who were recreating near a river access site, saw the man floating face down in the river.

They pulled him out and attempted C.P.R, but were unable to resuscitate him and he died on scene.

Sheriff Curry says the victim was with at least one other person in a raft before going overboard.

At this point, authorities are unsure if the man drowned or died from a medical condition.

Sheriff Curry says an autopsy will be performed to find the exact cause of death.
