KALISPELL - A West Kalispell neighborhood was corned off with police tape on Tuesday as police investigate an apparent murder-suicide. Police responded to the home after a man called 911 saying his father killed his mother and was going to kill himself.
A quiet Kalispell neighborhood was disrupted early Tuesday morning with the sound of gunfire and the loss of two lives in what appears to be a type of domestic incident. An adult male called Kalispell Police and told them that his father had just shot and killed his mother and was going to turn a gun on himself.
"When our officers arrived, they got close enough to be able to look inside of the residence and saw two adults that were down and believed to be deceased, the officers in conjunction with the Flathead County Sheriff's Department and the Highway Patrol entered the residence and confirmed that there were two deceased adults inside the residence," said Chief Roger Nasset, Kalispell Police Dept.
Kalispell Police continued to investigate on Tuesday afternoon an apparent murder suicide in this west Kalispell neighborhood. According to Nasset, they are keeping their options open to any possibilities in this case, "it came in as a possible murder suicide, however, our investigation is completely open to anything at this point and we are looking into all possibilities."
Nasset says they truly had no idea what they were going to encounter when they arrived on scene, "it was an extremely precarious situation when the officers arrived, just because they didn't know the status of the second individual at least from the initial report, so they took all precautions believing that there may be an armed suspect inside. So for quite some time, it was very intense and obviously a sad moment when they realized what happened."
The names of the deceased have not been released.
Police say that information will not be made available until Wednesday at the earliest.
