KALISPELL- The Kalispell School Board had more discussion on Tuesday night on how to avoid downsizing staff and school programs for next year while also deciding about whether or not to run another school levy.

Flathead County Public Schools Superintendent Darlene Schottle says board members agree the community needs to vote on district levies because of the budget shortfall and overcrowding in classrooms this year.

But that would mean an operational levy at the elementary school level and one of three levies at the high school level, if the board recommended running levies again.

Schottle says the school board continues to work with shrinking resources each year, and fears they are running out of options for supplementing the budget.

"We've cut a lot of our custodial, maintenance, and sports staff at central offices. We're reaching a critical stage where we'd have to look inside of our instructional programs and we don't want to have to do that."

The Kalispell School Board will hold a special meeting later this month to decide what levy, if any, they want to run at the high school level.
