EVERGREEN - A lot of big-name stores made the decision to offer Black Friday sales a day early this year, and that had one Flathead Valley store changing its hours, and one-upping its competitors.
Kmart normally begins its Black Friday savings on Thanksgiving night but this year, they started the sale even earlier to make shopping more convenient for people who had to work today.
"I saw the traffic going around our building for the 8 p.m. opening. People were lining up the previous night for that. They actually slept on the sidewalk with sleeping bags. One family took turns saving a place in line. They were on the sidewalk overnight with sleeping bags," Kmart manager Steve Wilson said.
He added that it Kmart wasn't as busy Thursday because of their early opening, but says they've had a lot more customers overall as compared to last year.
