MISSOULA- Kmart corporate headquarters announced today it's closing the Missoula location that's been open for 30 years. Fifty workers are expected to lose their jobs.
Erica Siphers works for a neighboring business. "That's crazy. I can't- I never would've thought Kmart would close," Sipher said. "I mean, it's been here every since I was born, you know, and it was here before Walmart was even thought of."
Kmart shopper Dave Olson said he hates to hear about any store closing.
"Business lost is lost forever, is what it is," Olson said. "It never comes out, so it's one more person that doesn't have a job. One more thing that's not brought to the community. So it's hard on a community when you start seeing businesses go away."
The Missoula location is the only Kmart in the state on the closing list. The clearance sale begins Friday, and the store will close permanently by the end of September.
