MISSOULA - The corner of Brooks Street and South Reserve Street will have a new look in the coming year.
The long-standing K-Mart building will be demolished to make room for a 55,410 square foot Kohl's Department Store and 41,239 square foot Cabela's Outpost.
The existing building to the west of the K-Mart building will be renovated into two lease spaces. It's not known at this time what businesses will be occupying that space.
Woodbury Corporation of Salt Lake City, Utah owns the 12-plus acre property located at Brooks Street, Dore Lane and South Reserve Street.
They have owned the property since 1988 and have wanted to redevelop it for the last 10 years, but have been unable to do so because of a long-term lease with K-Mart.
Woodbury bought out the K-Mart and Montana Homefitters lease, and it's their intention to redevelop the property, now called "South Crossing" in an attractive long-term retail destination.
The total project cost of South Crossing is estimated at $24,500,000. Demolition of the K-Mart building is expected to start between May 29 and June 25.
