MISSOULA - The Lady Griz last played a game on March 16th but while they were taking some time off, they were also taking a bigger lead in the Big Sky Conference.
Southern Utah upset Northern Colorado 73-57 last Saturday, dropping the Bears out of a tie for first, and giving Montana sole possession of the top spot.
The Lady Griz now control their own destiny for the league title, but they'll start their final four game stretch against a very dangerous team, those same Southern Utah Thunderbirds.
"To beat them at Northern Colorado, that's a tough place to go play," said Lady Griz forward Jordan Sullivan. "And they beat them by double digits. So yeah, we better be ready to play Thursday."
"It was awesome that Northern Colorado lost obviously," added forward Ali Hurley. "But when we played Southern Utah at Southern Utah we were losing at halftime by one or two. They're a good team. They're feisty. They're kind of like Northern Colorado in a way. They put a lot of pressure on the ball."
Montana dominated the second half in their first meeting with Southern Utah, on their way to a 15-point victory. They'll tipoff against the T-Birds at 7 p.m. on Thursday, and will also honor Hurley, Katie Baker, Kenzie De Boer and Alyssa Smith on Senior night.
The Montana women and men will both head over to Bozeman for a rivalry doubleheader with the Bobcats on Saturday.
