Libby woman charged in murder claims justifiable use of force

LIBBY- The Libby woman who is facing a deliberate homicide charge for allegedly shooting her husband to death says she used justifiable use of force.

52-year-old Kristina Welch is accused of shooting her 50-year-old husband Charles Bryan Welch to death last December.

She told law enforcement that she and her husband had been fighting when he approached her with a handgun. He was laying on a couch with the gun and Welch was sitting on the floor when the gun fell onto the ground.

She said they both went for the gun, but she was able to grab it and shot him in what she thought was his arm. She then fled downstairs.

Welch appeared in a Lincoln County District Courtroom on Tuesday where she issued a written notice of intent to introduce evidence of justifiable use of force in the incident.

Welch's bond is set at $500,000 and has a pre-trial conference on March 22nd with a jury trial is set to begin around August 21st.
