MISSOULA- The Missoula Mavericks finished their season earlier this month, but one of their stars keeps finding new ways to shine. Shane Olson played at the prestigious USA Baseball's National Team Identification Series over the weekend, and that makes him our Athlete of the Week.

The junior at Loyola High School made the Mountain West region team, where he played first base and outfield against some of the best high school talent in the country. Olson finished 3-for-9 with a couple RBI's while facing amazing competition in Cary North Carolina.

"Oh, it was crazy just to see the top pitchers from every region. Like in one game, the slowest fastball I saw was 90 miles an hour. I'm not used to seeing that at all. So, it was just great to be able to see what I needed to do to improve, and where I needed to get myself to," Olson recalled.

The tournament serves as a tryout for Team USA for the Pan-Am Games and other competitions. But it also allowed many college coaches and pro scouts to check out Olson, and he's excited about his future thanks to the new exposure.
