BUTTE- Butte-Silver Bow police officers responded to a call early Wednesday morning about an alleged prowler on a woman's rooftop.

The woman, who lives with her brother, sent frantic text messages to her brother around 4 a.m. Wednesday, saying there was a man on the roof above her apartment.

Her brother immediately called 911 and when authorities arrived, they discovered the man on the roof was the woman's ex-boyfriend.

Police arrested 35-year-old Vernon Maddock and charged him with partner family member assault with reasonable apprehension and criminal trespass to property, both misdemeanor charges.

Butte-Silver Bow Sheriff John Walsh said no motive was listed in the initial report.
