MISSOULA- A report late Tuesday afternoon says a man who initially said he was assaulted for being gay pleaded guilty to filing a false police report.

His story may have unraveled after a video surfaced that showed how he may have been injured.

The Missoula Independent newspaper obtained video of Joseph Baken, 22, attempting to do a backflip, but instead, smashing his face against the curb.

Baken filed a police report on Sunday saying he was beaten that night on Higgins Avenue because he is gay.

Missoula Police Detectives contacted Baken after viewing the video tape, where he admitted that the alleged assault against him did not occur as it was reported.

Baken entered the guilty plea in Missoula Municipal Court on Tuesday for filing a false police report and was fined $300 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with the sentence suspended.
