MISSOULA- A man who was celebrating his birthday downtown Saturday night says he was attacked because of his sexual preference.
The victim told Missoula police he was at the Missoula Club with authorities saying the victim reported telling people he was gay and was looking for a place where gays hung out.
Investigators said that's when a man invited the victim to go outside and attacked him. Police say the man had scrapes and bruises, but no serious injuries.
Police say the man reported the attack three hours after it happened, and no one called 911 to report the incident.
Police say they're considering the assault a misdemeanor.
The Wipe Out Homophobia page has a photo and description of the incident, and says, "Nobody deserves this, especially not just because of your sexuality."
