MISSOULA- A former Bonner Post Office employee received a five year probationary sentence Thursday for stealing money from the post office, while blaming the crime on a prescription drug problem.

Gregory Kemp pleaded guilty to misappropriation of postal funds, a felony offense back in April.

Federal prosecutors say Kemp was working at the Bonner Post Office for three months in 2010, and embezzled over $14,000 by using a small pry bar to break into employees cash boxes and by making out money orders to himself.

During sentencing, Kemp told the judge his prescription drug addiction is a "daily struggle" and told the judge that's why he took the money. He also apologized for what he did, and told the judge he would pay back all of the money.
