LIBBY - Local residents with asbestos-related diseases can start signing up for Medicare benefits in a matter of days.
Beginning on May 17th, Social Security Administration staff will be in Libby to help residents file their Medicare applications.
Included in the health care reform bill passed by Congress was a provision to provide funding for screenings as well as Medicare coverage for Libby residents diagnosed with asbestos-related disease, regardless of age.
Montana Senator Max Baucus played a key role getting this funding for Libby residents and the SAA will begin sending letters May 10th alerting Libby residents to the sign up.
Then on May 17th, Social Security Administration staff will be in Libby at the County Annex Building at 418 Mineral Avenue from 8:00 to 4:30 Monday through Friday to help residents file their Medicare applications.
