EAST MISSOULA - A Milltown woman died after she rolled her SUV on Interstate 90 near East Missoula just before 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday near mile marker 108.
Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Sean Finley said the unidentified 31-year-old woman was heading east on the freeway when passing another car, she drove onto the soft portion of the shoulder on the left hand side of the road and rolled. Her SUV ended up on its roof in the westbound lanes.
She was thrown from the car and pronounced dead on the scene.
Finley said it appeared she hadn't been wearing a seat belt. "You know, it's the holiday weekend, crashes happen. Seat belts are really important and this is one of the circumstances where a seat belt may have helped her," Finley said.
