MISSOULA- We already know one legion state champion as the Mission Valley Mariners wrapped up the Class A title on Monday in Great Falls.

Our athletes of the week didn't take the easy road to get the trophy. The Mariners lost their first game of the tournament to Glasgow, but then won three straight in the loser's bracket. The team got their revenge against the Reds with two impressive victories in the championship, 11-3 and 13-4.

"We always know that we can play with anybody. We lose one game, we'll come back and win the next, and the next after that. And we know that the team that can beat us is ourselves. That's what happened in the first game. We beat ourselves," pitcher and third baseman Robert Gauthier said.

"On the mound, we know we have one of the best defenses in state behind us. You know, Bradley came in and threw a great game after I did and finished us off. He threw great all game long. So, it helps knowing you have the best defense in state behind you," added pitcher and shortstop Justin Evertz.

The Mariners now own their first state title since 2007, and get to keep playing. They'll head to Burley, Idaho for the regional tournament starting on August 10th.
