MISSOULA- A Thursday event in Missoula looks to help the homeless population by offering a variety of services and resources.
The sixth annual Project Homeless Connect runs until 3 p.m. on Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in downtown Missoula and organizers say the event provides "a one-day, one-stop service event" for people who are either homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless.
United Way of Missoula Chief Executive Director Susan Patrick Hay, stopped by the set of Montana This Morning on Thursday to talk about Project Homeless Connect.
Haircuts, medical and dental care, reading glasses, a warm meal, clothing, blankets, mental health counseling, legal advice, housing assistance, employment counseling, benefits enrollment, senior services, personal hygiene packets, pet services, and more are being offered up on Thursday.
Project Homeless Connect serves as a catalyst for community involvement in Missoula according to news release, and 70 service agencies and 150 volunteers helped 325 people during last January's event.
This week has been proclaimed "Homelessness Awareness Week" by Missoula Mayor John Engen and will feature several events, including Project Homeless Connect.
