MISSOULA- There's one good thing about the rain that's been falling this week in western Montana- the wildfire danger has dropped considerably this week.
The Missoula County Fire Protection Association says the heavy rain Wednesday, along with cooler temperatures, have reduced the fire danger for the first time since dry, hot weather hit the area in August.
MCFPA has moved the fire danger back to "moderate" which means open burning can resume in Missoula County for people with a burn permit.
To get a permit, contact your local fire department, Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) or US Forest Service office. There is no open burning allowed within Missoula city limits.
The MCFPA, which represents area fire departments and emergency managers is thanking Missoula residents for being cautious with fire during the recent dry spell.
Outside of the West Riverside Fire, most of the smaller grass and wildland fires in the county presented no major dangers to home and property.
