Missoula man facing copper wire theft charges

MISSOULA- A Missoula man has been charged with felony burglary and theft for breaking into Allied Waste and Recycling and stealing copper.

Missoula County prosecutors say in court documents that Kory Piatz entered Allied Waste on West Broadway on January 18th, January 20th and December 21st, where he stole over $1,500 in copper wiring.

Piatz is accused of then pawning the copper to several businesses including the Axmen and Pacific Steel and Recycling.

Piatz told police he obtained the large amount of copper by stripping trailers. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $50,000 for two counts and 10 years in prison and up to a $50,000 fine for the third count.
