MISSOULA - Friday the 13th may be an unlucky day for one long time theatre in Missoula. And now the next big movie theatre may now be hours away, as we found out one of the only two theatres to play mainstream releases in town has closed.
"Well there's about three on my list, so whichever one I can get into," said Ginger Green said.
Green is an avid movie goer, "I enjoy the music, and I just enjoy all aspects of the movies."
Part of what Green enjoys about watching films, is the theatre experience. And the Village 6 didn't quite have all the bells and whistles the Carmike 12 does.
"As far as the movie theatre this is it," Green said.
Stadium seating and newer projection technology possibly made it hard to compete with.
"The theatre itself was kind of dark and dingy," said Hannah Lietner.
"If it kind of had maybe a renovation that would probably worth it," said Allyse Ouellette.
"I just knew they must have been struggling because they started cutting out the showings, more of the daytime movies and going to the weekend," said Green.
We reached out to Car Mike's corporate offices multiple times but did not get a response. An ad in the paper still showed run times.
"I didn't know that it closed down, it's a little surprising," said Lietner.
And though it seemed the new developments going on next to the old Village 6 could have potentially brought some more life into the old theater, the marquee outside, says perhaps that showing is too late.
We contacted the city to see if there have been any new applications for the space, and so far there have been none.
