MISSOULA- Sam Schultz used to dream of putting a gold medal around his neck and now he's going to get his chance.
The 26-year-old Missoula native was named to the U.S. Olympic team over the weekend and will compete in the Mountain Bike Cross Country event in London. It's not a big spectator sport, but fans that do watch will get quite a treat.
"The loops are getting shorter. A lot of times they'll do a figure eight type loop and that makes it a lot easier for spectators to check it out. The loops now are generally between 15 and 20 minutes at race pace so we'll do usually it's five to seven laps so people can get a pretty good idea of what's going on and see you in a few different spots on the course and be pretty entertained," Schultz told us.
The Hellgate High School graduate has never competed in an Olympic games, but owns plenty of experience in world and national championships and this season. Schultz also won the inaugural Missoula XC event in his hometown last summer.
