MISSOULA - The story behind Missoula's Peace Sign, which once sat high above the city on Water Works Hill, has received the attention of a Minnesota filmmaker.

Jan Selby is an independent director and producer of documentary films based in St. Paul, who has already started the ground work for the film called "9 Pieces of Peace".

She plans to re-tell the story of the peace sign's birth in 1983 and its demise in 2001. The film will focus on the stories from those who are all for it, and others who disagreed with the sign.

Selby has already started working with the Jeanette Rankin Peace Center and many other peace sign historians to comprise the film.

A fundraising event for the film "9 Pieces of Peace" is set for Wednesday, July 28th, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ten Spoon Winery.

There will be music, food and a sneak preview of the movie trailer at the event and videographers will also be on-hand for people to share their stories.
