MISSOULA- It might not be solace to your back ache from all that shoveling, but you witnessed history in Missoula Monday, as the city sets a new single day record for snowfall.
The day had already gotten off to a snowy start with snowfall continuing to come down nearly non-stop throughout the day.
But things got really interesting in the evening with heavy snow coming down at the rate of 1"-to-2" per hour. The National Weather recorded 4" of snow alone between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
All that added up to a total of 7.9" by the time midnight hit - breaking the old record of 5.6" that had been unchallenged since 1939.
It also comes on top of the 24" Missoula had received through Monday morning which is making this the snowiest February in 68 years.
