MISSOULA - Some local students recently completed a research project that taught them about state issues and gave them some skills needed for the real world.

The Missoula International School is holding a Primary Years Program Exhibition, where fifth grade students present research projects they've conducted on real life issues and problems.

The goal of the projects is for students to develop skills necessary to be successful on a daily basis--such as leadership, communication, and teamwork. Some of the research topics included issues of the Milltown Dam, childhood obesity, and the impact of wolves on ranching in Montana.

The students will share their information with the public and other MIS students on Friday by using Powerpoint presentations and by performing skits about their topic, spoken entirely in Spanish.

"I feel really good about ourselves that we learned something this huge. We did something this huge," student Molly Kauffman said. "We did something this big and actually took action and had a reaction to our action."

"I learned how to work with people in a group and to be able to put a bunch of different pieces together and put it into one project," added fellow fifth grade student Alex Simmons.

Missoula International School is the Northwest's first International Baccalaureate World International School authorized to present the Primary Years Program.
