MISSOULA- The Montana scientific community, and bird lovers as well, are celebrating the arrival of osprey chicks that have hatched in Missoula.

The chicks are this season's offspring of a pair of adult osprey whose nest is in the mouth of Hellgate Canyon along the Clark Fork River.

Thanks to a cooperative research program from the University of Montana's Environmental Biogeochemisty Laboratory, the birds are featured on a high-resolution Internet camera, which lit up this week when the first chick hatched.

The video from the camera showed the first little chick getting a big fish dinner thanks to his dad and by Wednesday afternoon, it appeared a second chick was starting to peck through its shell.

UM researcher Dr. Erick Greene says a third hatchling could arrive in the next few days. Click here to check out the webcam of the osprey.
