Missoulians hit the ice for a free skate day

MISSOULA - Dozens of Missoulians hit the ice this morning for Bring a Friend Skate day at Glacier Ice Rink.

People of all ages laced up their skates and bundled up to enjoy the Glacier Ice Rink event.

The Figure Skating Club helped newbies out on to the ice with tips and basic lessons today.

Basic Skills Coordinator Jilayne Lee said the club wants everyone to get a chance to skate for free.

"To experience it even if they don't sign up for lessons and they just decide its not for them or they can't afford it for whatever reason right now in their lives, thats okay. It's just kinda what we want to do to give back to the community and just get them out on the ice to have fun."

Bring a Friend Day also gave out door prizes and entertained skaters with demonstrations by the Missoula Figure Skating Club.

People also had the chance to register for an eight-week basic skills class that kicks off now.

KPAX's own Jill Valley is a member of the Figure Skating Club and showed off her skills Saturday as well.
