HELENA - State Auditor Monica Lindeen says she will not be running for the US Senate.
The announcement comes days after former Governor Brian Schweitzer announced he would also not be running for Montana's open Senate seat.
Democrats still have not slated a candidate to run for the seat being vacated by senior Senator Max Baucus.
Two Republicans have announced: Corey Stapleton and Champ Edmunds, and there is still strong speculation that Congressman Steve Daines will jump in the race.
Democrats who are also considering a run are superintendent of public instruction Denise Juneau, president of Emily's List Stephanie Schriock, Lt Governor John Walsh and state Representative Franke Wilmer.
Lindeen sent a letter to supporters today saying in part, "after discussing this at length with my family, I've decided I can best serve Montanans in the job I was just reelected to do Montana is my home, my family is here and I don't want to leave it."
