A Billings woman has been given 20 years behind bars after being convicted of vehicular homicide while under the influence will in connection with a February 2010 crash. Tawny Fisher-Jones of Billings was sentenced to 30 years with 10 suspended Wednesday morning in Yellowstone County District Court. Fisher-Jones caused the death of Merry Jane Trewhella, 59, of Billings, when their vehicles collided at the intersection of King Avenue West and 29th Street West.

The Billings man killed in an early Wednesday morning motorcycle crash on Broadwater Avenue has been identified as 37-year-old Michael Harry Schmall. Billings police say when they arrived at the scene just after 2 a.m., officers found the motorcycle and Schmall near a pile of dirt on the shoulder of the westbound lane. Schmall, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An emergency training exercise involving over 20 agencies is underway in Great Falls. The scenario involves an emergency response to an aircraft crash. The Great Falls International Airport safety manager is advising folks using the facility to use caution due to emergency vehicle activity.

Nearly 600 members of the Montana National Guard's 163rd Cavalry will be sent to Mississippi for combat skills training on September 20th. The unit will train at Camp Shelby for two months before heading to Iraq for 10 months. Major Tim Crowe of the Montana National Guard says the deployment is for one year and that the unit will ultimately be sent to support overseas contingency operations.

The United Way of Missoula County is kicking off their Fall fundraising season, with a goal of bringing in over $1.2 million, which marks an increase of 20% over last year's target. The invitation only kickoff takes place from 6 until 8 at Flanagan Motors on Stephens Avenue.

The Montana Outfitters and Guides Association has filed a formal complaint against the backers of Initiative 161 which would abolish outfitter sponsored hunting licenses and require non resident licenses. The group claims signature gatherers forged signatures and also failed to provide a copy of the petition while collecting signatures.
