BILLINGS - Billings law enforcement are on the scene of a fatal shooting on the city's west end.
The incident happened shortly before 1 p.m. off of King Avenue near Office Max.
According to Billings Police Chief Rich St. John, a Yellowstone County Sheriff's Deputy was involved in the shooting.
Minimal information is available at this point, but we are told the deceased is a male. His age is unknown. The man was driving a Jeep Rubicon.
According to an eyewitness on scene, the incident began to unfold when a sheriff's deputy pulled in front of the Jeep Rubicon to block it from going through the intersection. At that point, the witness said, more officers arrived on scene and attempted to remove the armed suspect from the vehicle by breaking the car windows, but were unsuccessful. Throughout the altercation, law enforcement were telling the suspect to put his gun down. The man refused and a sheriff's deputy shot the suspect through the glass window.
Witnesses report hearing as many as a dozen gunshots during the ordeal.
Sheriff Mike Linder is on scene and will be providing official information at a 3:30 p.m. press conference.
Authorities have closed King Avenue between 24th Street West and 29th Street West.
