WASHINGTON DC - A group of Montana farmers and business owners are in Washington D.C. this week to urge action on clean energy legislation they say will save the environment and the economy.
Some 11 Montanans from Billings, Helena, Bozeman and the Flathead gathered on Capitol Hill, telling the senate they want to find a way to use the state's existing biofuels.
They say making a co-generation plant fueled by biomass, as well as a limit on carbon emissions will both combat climate change and create nearly 13,000 jobs in Montana.
Montana's News Station talked with Kalispell Business Owner Diane Yarus after she spoke in D.C. Wednesday. She says Montana has endless resources to help dig the country out of the recession.
"We are looking for a comprehensive clean energy legislation so that we can get on board in creating some jobs in that new market. China is already investing millions of dollars already and we just need to innovate and get American innovation back on track," explained Yarus.
Yarus also told us that the Senate has been very responsive to them and she's hopeful that there will be new energy legislation passed in 2010.
