STEVENSVILLE- A mountain lion attacked two llamas on a property off of Bass Creek Road near Stevensville on Saturday night.

Property owner Arden Cowan said he found one of the animals dead and the other fatally wounded the next morning.

He says the llamas survived in mountain lion country for 18 years, and it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.

"I buried them with the backhoe yesterday, so there's nothing here for the lion to continue to eat. But it was back and set off our outside lights. And she saw it coming down here to the llama pen. So it's still around."

Cowan contacted a game warden about the attack, but doesn't want the animal to be trapped.

Mountain lions were spotted several times in the summer and back in August, FWP officials killed a lion that had been seen stalking children at Harper's Lake in the Blackfoot Valley.
