LOLO - It wasn't a deer that caught the attention of a family out enjoying the morning outside Lolo earlier this week. It was a mountain lion, and Amanda Nichols has the video to prove it.
Nichols and her husband were out at the Sapphire Ranch about three miles south of Lolo about 8:30 a.m. Thursday when they spotted something.
Amanda says they thought it was a deer until they noticed the tail. She says the cat ended up walking past them about 12 yards away.
We spoke with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials who are taking a look at the video.
The area is mountain lion habitat, although we're told it's unusual to have a cat out in the open in the daytime. The area is in a block grant management area on the east side of U.S. Highway 93.
