MISSOULA - Do you drink out of a metal water bottle? Some such bottles are now considered unsafe, but one local water company is offering replacements.

After nationally reported incidents this week of children getting their tongues stuck in narrow-necked metal bottles, Mountain Water Company is offering to replace any such container with a safer, wider-mouthed bottle.

Mountain Water Company has provided low-cost metal bottles in the past as part of its "Hit the Tap" program, which encourages people to use reusable containers as an alternative to disposable plastic bottles.

President John Kappes says the company will replace any metal bottle from any manufacturer that has a smaller mouth and machine threading.

"We do take serious providing safe clean water to this community and we see this as a potential hazard, so...we're going to be sending out information and posters to the child care centers, pediatrics, and those types of areas to try and get this word out," Kappes explained.

Anyone who would like to exchange a bottle for a safer one free-of-charge, can do so at Mountain Water Company's West Broadway location.

Kappes says the company will work with a recycler for the best way to dispose of the unsafe bottles.
