MPD reconstructing events that lead to drug shooting

MISSOULA - No doubt on this holiday the Missoula Police Department is thankful one of their own is still alive after Wednesday's shootout near Gold's Gym. The officer should be home this Thanksgiving while the shooting suspect is out of the hospital and in jail, along with an alleged accomplice.

We now know that the undercover agent shot on Wednesday is 33 years old and is a 6-year veteran of the Missoula Police Department. Officials also told us Thursday that the suspect arrested is a 25 year old male and along with him was a 22 year old female who was also booked into jail in relation to this case. The Montana Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation is helping the Missoula Police in the investigation.

"It looks like it was most likely a drug rip where the suspect had no intention of being involved in selling anything; he was just going to try to steal money from the agent," said Brian Lockerby, Montana Department of Justice investigator.

Lockerby says that's when the gun battle began inside or near the agent's vehicle. The suspect then tried to flee the scene but was caught by backup officers, "There were initial indications that the second suspect was at large possibly armed. I believe in the confusion there might not have been a clear understanding what happened and that's very understandable. Um, our indications are right now that there's not a second suspect at large however there are a number of people we still need to locate that we're not sure if they are suspects or no. And we need to clear that up and that's what's taking a considerable amount of time in this case."

As agents are working diligently to find more reconstruct the events leading up to the incident, Lockerby says they are thankful their colleague is alive, "We're fortunate that he survived a very dangerous situation. Now we're trying to pick up the pieces and get an idea of what led up to it so that we have a better idea for the prosecutor and how to proceed with this case."

Once the investigation is complete, the report will be submitted to the Missoula County Attorney's Office for review.

Authorities will not confirm the names of the two suspects arrested. However, records from the Missoula County Detention Center show a male and a female were booked Wednesday night, each are facing felony charges,

They are Joshua Lee Robinson, 25, and Jazmine Sevarina Beehler, 22.
