HELENA - The Missouri River Drug Task Force was nationally recognized recently for their efforts, being tapped as the Rural Drug Task Force of the Year for the Rocky Mountain Region.
The task force covers Lewis and Clark, Broadwater, Gallatin, Park, Sweetgrass, Madison, and Meagher counties, which totals about 16,000 square miles.
The Missouri River Drug Task Force was responsible for 151 felony arrests in 2011, but the group isn't only concerned with making arrests.
"We get good cases, prosecutors prosecute them and we get sentences, but people also get into treatment, so it isn't just about putting people in jail. It's about making people's lives better through intervention. Sometimes there is no other way," said Lewis and Clark County Sheriff, Leo Dutton.
