MISSOULA- The remnants of hurricane Sandy is affecting millions along the eastern seaboard and people in Montana are doing what they can to help.

The Montana Red Cross has sent one volunteer so far to help out the effort in New York, and others are on standby, ready to leave within 24 hours notice.

The organization is also taking donations, and organizers say the best way you can help is by writing a check.

"We're not deploying spontaneous volunteers. We do not suggest people drive over to the East Coast or get in their RV's and drive across the country," Montana Red Cross Volunteer Coordinator Jenny Hurst advised.

"The best way to help is a financial donation either to the Montana Red Cross or to the Red Cross nationally. Either way you know it's gonna help out," she added.

The Red Cross is also accepting blood donations to send to the storm's victims.
