HOT SPRINGS - Hundreds of animals, including more that 400 llamas, still need homes after a Sanders County sanctuary ran out of money.
Animal care organizations are now focusing on finding new homes for home about 80 horses. Texas horse expert Jerry Finch from Habitat for Horses, along with Montana Horse Sanctuary's Jane Heath and Montana Animal Care Association's Phyllis Ruana, are at the sanctuary assessing the horses' health conditions.
They said the legal transfer of horse ownership is complicated, and each horse's brand must be inspected to determine its origin before approving new ownership. An application for horse adoption is available at www.info@montanahorsesanctuary.org.
The organizations are also looking for volunteers in the Corvallis area to help care for some of the horses until they find a home. A volunteer application is posted online.
Donations to assist with the horses' needs, including ferriers, veterinarians, feed, supplements and transportation can be sent to:
The Montana Animal Care Association, P.O. Box 153, Corvallis, MT, 59828
The Western Montana Eequine Rescue and Rehabilitation, P.O. Box 1168, Corvallis, MT, 59828
