PLAINS- A memorial service has been set for two western Montana sisters who drown in Alaska last week.
Fern Johnson, 60, of Plains, and her sister, Carol Heater, 48, of Kalispell, were canoeing in Anchorage last Wednesday when their canoe overturned in a log jam.
The women were in Alaska with other family members to celebrate their father's 85th birthday. Now, a memorial service has been set for the two women who had a big impact on their communities.
The service is planned for Saturday, August 18 at 2 p.m. at the Sanders County Fairgrounds Pavilion in Plains. Lunch will be served after the service at the VFW hall in Plains.
