MISSOULA- The Missoula County Sheriff's Department has released the name of the woman who died in a Wednesday accident on the Blackfoot River near Bonner.
Missoula County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Jason Johnson says that Colleen Marie Nelson, 44, of Anaconda was pronounced dead at 8 p.m. Wednesday after being taken off of life support at St. Patrick Hospital.
No other information has been released at this time.
Authorities were called to the Blackfoot River just before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday after an apparent tubing accident that happened off of Highway 200 about one mile east of Bonner.
Johnson told us Wednesday that the victim, her husband, three kids and two nephews were tubing past the weigh station boat ramp off when the incident happened.
Officials say something caused the woman to get caught in a log jam. Her 15-year-old nephew managed to free her, but she slipped underwater and her family lost sight of her.
Three fishermen downstream caught sight of her floating face-down and were able to pull her from the river and performed CPR on the shore across from the old Stimson Mill site until emergency crews arrived on the scene.
