FRENCHTOWN- Firefighters are responding to a new fire, dubbed the Butler Fire, that's burning on the border of the Ninemile Ranger District and Flathead Indian Reservation, about 10 miles northwest of Frenchtown Pond, according to a press release.
Lightning started the 40-acre Butler Fire, which is not threatening any private property or buildings, Lolo National Forest spokesman Boyd Hartwig said.
The blaze was reported to dispatchers at 3 p.m. Monday by a U.S. Forest Service lookout and Hartwig says two helicopters, two Hot Shot crews, and district initial attack firefighters are responding.
The fire is burning on all sides, with torching and crowning observed as it churns away in dead and downed fuel in steep terrain.
