New fire restrictions come to 4 Flathead Lake state parks

HELENA- State officials have placed Big Arm State Park, Finley Point State Park, Wild Horse Island State Park and Yellow Bay State Park under Stage 1 fire restrictions.

The change begins at midnight with Montana State Parks officials saying they are making the change in coordination with Confederated Salish and Kootenai lands and lands administered by the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation.

Campfires are only permitted in designated steel fire grates at Big Arm, Finley Point and Yellow Bay state parks.While propane and LPG camp stoves are allowed, smoking is not allowed except in enclosed vehicles or developed sites at least three-feet in diameter and cleared of all flammable materials.

All campfires with open flames are not allowed at White Horse Island State Park. The building of campfires within steel fire grates is also not be permitted. Propane and LPG camp stoves are allowed. Smoking is not allowed.
