No gas found in Target Range alarm scare

MISSOULA- An alarm that detects gas went off Friday afternoon at Target Range Elementary School, sending nearly 500 students out for an early recess.

A staff member called authorities shortly after 1 p.m. reporting a gas smell, and Missoula Rural Fire District Captain Blaine Cowan says fire trucks arrived just five minutes later when the school's gas alarm went off.

Students and staff evacuated outdoors while firemen scanned each room. The search took about 45 minutes, but no gas was found in the building. Target Range students and staff returned to class around 2 p.m.
