KALISPELL - It may feel like winter is right around the corner and at the Flathead National Forest Service office, officials say that's been great news for controlling fires in Northwestern Montana.
Assistant Forest Fire Manager Mike Goicoechea says summer fire season is over.
"It's safe to say we're out of the woods, for the summer portion. We still could have a late fall season if things went high and dry, and we got some curing with all that fine fuel," he explained. "And once the herbacious fuels, we get a hard freeze, those are gonna cure and become exposed to the ability to burn if we get fires."
