LEWISTON - One man is dead and three other people have been hospitalized following a two-car collision Friday morning near mile marker 79 of U.S. Highway 87, about two miles west of Lewistown.

Kelly Mantooth with Montana Highway Patrol says two westbound vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed as they left Lewistown. Reports indicate that the trailing car attempted to pass the first car in a no-passing zone.

The driver of the passing vehicle lost control and slammed into an east-bound car from Missoula. The impact killed the man driving the east-bound vehicle.

Two occupants in the east-bound car and the driver who was trying to pass were transported to Central Montana Medical Center with injuries.

The nature and extent of their injuries is unknown. Authorities have not yet released the name of the man who died.
