HELENA- One night removed from a wild extra-inning win for the Missoula Osprey, the Helena Brewers left no doubt who would end up the victor on Tuesday here at Kindrick Legion Field.
The Brewers used a six-run fifth inning to take control and cruise to a 9-1 win over the Osprey in front of 849 wind-blown fans.
With breezes blowing in from right field from 20-30 miles per hour for much of the game, both teams were challenged with trying to play defense in, and hit against, the steady wind.
The Osprey (4-5) scored first, after they loaded the bases in the top of the second inning. Ty Linton - whose 2-run home run lifted Missoula to the win on Monday - plated a run with a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead.
The Brewers (3-6) answered with a run in the home half of the third inning, chipped in with two runs in the fourth then blew the game open with a six-run fifth inning, chasing Osprey starter Karl Triana (0-1) and taking a 9-1 lead.
Osprey catcher Yosbel Gutierrez led the squad at the plate with three hits, while John Leonard and Rudy Flores added two hits each.
The Osprey and Brewers will play a three-game series at Ogren Park Allegiance Field, beginning on Wednesday at 7:05. Right-hander Jared Ray will get the start for Missoula, while Helena will counter with left-hander Brent Suter.
