MISSOULA- The Missoula Osprey fell to the Great Falls Voyagers 14-6 on Wednesday.
The Osprey (17-13, 35-33) held a 2-1 lead after the end of the first inning, thanks to a two-run single by Yosbel Gutierrez, but the Voyagers (11-19, 35-33) scored seven times in the top of the second inning off of Missoula starter Karl Triana (4-5) and twice more in the top of the third to take control of the game.
Despite the loss, the Osprey managed to stay one game back of Billings for first place in the Pioneer League North Division race. The Mustangs lost to the Helena Brewers on Wednesday, 6-4.
Jake Lamb had two hits and a RBI, while Danny Pulfer, Breland Almadova and Alex Glenn each had two hits for the Osprey, who finished with 11 hits on the night. Anthony Velazquez drove in a pair of runs for Missoula, while Almadova and Pulfer each scored twice in the contest.
While the Osprey pitching staff was roughed up a bit in the contest, they did manage to strike out 12 Voyagers batters, and finished the two-game series with 28 strikeouts.
The Osprey will begin a six-game road trip with a key four-game series against the Billings Mustangs on Thursday at Dehler Park.
